Winter

Credit
I was up early and stood in the early morning stillness gazing in awe at the crescent moon hanging low in the eastern sky. It was quite comfortable outside when compared with some of the recent cold weather.

Two hours later, the wind picked up, which will soon bring another Arctic blast.
Winter has not been kind to us this year.

Yesterday's reprieve from the cold presented an opportunity to get outside and give the dogs a good brushing. They seemed energized and came inside to romp around a bit more.
An old sheet gets thrown over the sofa so the dogs can crawl up and watch me while I knit.

The scrap yarn throw grows. A wooden bowl full of choices is at standby.

Recent photo of baby Katie in her beautiful white dress.

Time to throw another log on the fire, brew a cup of tea and get the knitting needles clicking.

Can you identify with the cartoon below?

  1. Katie is a sweetie - how she is growing up.
We have had plenty of rain but the snow and frost seem to have passed us by so far this year, but never say never.

    1. I guess we got your portion of the ice/snow/cold this year. We didn't get the ice/snow condition that other parts of the southeastern U.S. received yesterday -- just the cold. The temp this morning was 5 degrees F., lowest we've had in many years. But Katie is a ray of sunshine of these dark and cold days.

  2. I can indeed identify with the picture.
I love your Setters. We used to breed them many years ago. Such lovely companions and so clever. I do the same. I have a throw that i put on my sofa when i am in the lounge. My animals are my family.
Your little Katie is so so cute. As Rosemary wrote.. she is growing fast.
We have bright sunlight here today. But windy windy and cold.
I am off to make some tea.
Today I am catching up with tidying my pullover drawers and bed linen.
I too have just put another log on the fire.
Happy days Sanda. thank you for your comment. From one tea lover to another.. val xx

    1. The dogs are indeed family members! and I'm afraid I'm lax in enforcing rules about getting on furniture with them. Years from now I won't remember the sofa, but I WILL remember my pets! Tea does seem to make the cold weather more bearable. And happy days to you as well, Val.

  3. Katie has so much hair already, how lovely she looks!
The sofa is a non-negotiable piece of furniture for Morty in our house, but it looks so nice to see your shiny retrievers being allowed on one ; ).
We had 2-3 days of milder weather, which was great, but it is turning cold again.
I´m ready to throw my gloves in the corner and go somewhere where it is warm. Not liking winter at all.

    1. Little Katies came into the world with a full head of dark hair. It has thinned and lightened a bit, but she still has lots of it! Let's all plan a get-away to warmer climes!! You are smart, perhaps, not to begin allowing Morty on the sofa. When the Rescue group brought Valerie for her visit with us -- to determine if we would be fit owners - she leaped upon the sofa to sit between my HB and me. I didn't have the heart to make her get down, although the ladies told her to. Not knowing what she may have been through before being rescued, I hadn't the heart to cause her more stress at her soon-to-be home. And thus it has remained!

  4. Envy you your dogs and your log fire. The knitting project sounds very satisfying and Katie is lovely in her white dress. I might well identify with the cartoon if I lived in the States, but I've no once complained it was too hot living here in England. The last time I whinged about heat was when we were in the motorhome near Avignon in July. There wasn't much room for air to circulate with the pull down bed so near the ceiling, but the model we've recently purchased has a permanent bed at the back about hip-height. When I lived in the US my favourite season was autumn, so fresh after the heat of summer. Here in England I think spring is my favourite; it's nowhere near warm but it is really beautiful. Summer is usually disappointing and autumn is just wet.

    1. Autumn is always a welcome treat after our long hot summers, and I've made a vow to myself not to complain about the heat this coming summer -- after this bitter cold of winter. It remains to be seen if I shall keep my vow! Thank you for your compliment about dear Katie.

  5. Snap!! just chucked logs in the log burner soo cosy while listening to the
rain pounding the windows. The Brits; do tend to grumble about the 'hot' (anything over 70f) but then our favourite topic is the weather!
Delightful white dress on Katy she is a real cutie.

    1. Weather just seems to be a topic of conversation everywhere. Rain would be welcome here as that would mean it would be warmer.... Katie's little white dress is so adorable on her. Thank you.

  6. Ha, great cartoon Sanda, and I'm guilty as charged, complaining re heat! Happily today is quite cool with a bit of rain, wonderfully refreshing. Little Katie is gorgeous in her pretty white dress and love her hair and white bow. It looks so cosy with the dogs comfortable by the fire, the wool ready for knitting, and a cup of tea on the way. Wish I was there!!

    1. I couldn't resist the cartoon because it says it all. Glad to hear you got rain, and hopefully, a respite from your heat. Wish you were here, too, Patricia: you could show me all the beautiful things you have whipped up on your sewing machine!

  8. Katie looks like a litle angel with her sweet curls and white dress :-)

We've had crazy weather that looked and felt like spring. Last Friday the temperatures dropped by 8 degrees, it started snowing and all I can think about are what havoc this caused to all t he trees and plants that were already in bloom :-(

    1. We are told the cold weather is good for preventing insects during the coming season, but I'm not buying it! The bugs always are bad, regardless of cold winter or not. Nothing to do but grin and bear it.....and complain, of course.

  9. Winter? We've yet to have winter. We are getting drier by the day. Just strange. Your Katie is a cutie. I do hope you knit her a spring sweater. Meanwhile your current knitting project is coming along nicely and just think how much of that stored yarn you are using up.

    1. Oh, you lucky girl! For warmness, not your dryness, of course. I have gone to the website to grab the pattern you knitted so I will hopefully begin knitting the sweater soon. Already have the yarn, a soft pink.

    1. Neither do I like the cold. But I don't like hot either. Am I ever satisfied with the weather? Yes, spring and autumn.
