Cherry Blossoms

One of my favorite times of the year is when the Yoshina Cherry Trees are in full bloom.

We have nine of these non fruit-bearing trees on the front lawn. Ornamental in nature only.

What a joy it is to be outside when they're blooming. The constant buzz of honeybees, the frosty and snow-like petals against the backdrop of clear blue skies, makes one feel that maybe there IS a spring this year after all.

I made a video near nightfall yesterday that I so wanted to share. It captured another sound of spring - that of little peeper frogs singing in the pond. But alas, something went wrong with the sound and the video was useless. I shall try again tonight!

  1. Hello Sanda:

How absolutely lovely are the cherry trees at this time of the year and what positive delight yours must bring. Alas, as we so often think, their blossom is all too fleeting but magical whilst it lasts.

Good luck with your 'frog' video tonight!!

    1. Thank you! The trees are at their peak today but rain and storms predicted tomorrow so goodbye blossoms. Frog video is up!

  2. Like you, I always watch the first signs of spring.
The white flowers are beautiful on the background of the blue sky.

I enjoyed your previous posts about your great-grandfather. I like family history and I did genealogical research on my maternal ancestors. This is an exciting and rewarding occupation.

    Bonjour de France.

  3. There are some trees very similar to this at the community centre where my craft group meets. I'm always in awe of their beauty. No idea if they are cherry trees or not - no fruit on them - but I do look forward to them in the spring.

    1. I think flowering trees are stars of the spring season, along with daffodils and azaleas.

  4. One of my favourite things to do in the spring is to ride the bus into town instead of driving the car so that I am free to observe the trees and gardens as they burst into a colourful and dazzling display of petals, clusters of blooms and wonderful scents.

    1. So many of the early flowing trees are ornamental fruit trees-- cherry peach pear etc. I don't have any fruit bearing trees as I don't want to do the pruning and spraying that is necessary.

  7. Just beautiful! Love the blue skies as well. Cherry trees are my favorite too..just hope they can last a few days before the rain and wind comes to ruin them as they are very fragile! Do believe spring is here at last.

    1. Something about the color. That pale pink is just so soft and magical looking.

  9. I am able to admire your cherry trees in pictures only, as we don´t have similar ones in general. Some lucky ones have succeeded in growing them, in warm, sheltered places.
Your trees are high and beautiful, nine of them - wow.

    1. Nine and wish I had nine more! They are quite large for an ornamental tree. The shapes are nice too!

  10. People driving by your property must enjoy the cherry trees as much as you do. Your photo's do look spring like.

    1. House is far back from the road so no one sees them unless they actually come here. So we mostly enjoy the sight ourselves!
