This morning after my Yoga class I stopped in Walmart to buy
a few supplies. The store was awash with folks, all of whom seemed to be in
search of Halloween candy, costumes for the kids and the like.
I quickly passed by the bins and bins of every imaginable
type of candy, mostly blocking the center isles (they plan it this way, right?)
and headed for the produce department to buy my weekly supply of fruits.
I did wish, however, to purchase a Halloween treat for the three children who have moved in down the hill from us. They are quite small, and I am not quite certain their parents will bring them up our long driveway tonight during their trick-or-treat rounds. Therefore, I’m going to bag their treats up festively and deliver them later in the afternoon.
Treats for the neighbor children: Skittles in pumpkins, gumballs in a miniature dispenser machine. |
While in the store, I was about to leave the sea of candy when I hesitated, thinking I should buy a Halloween treat for my husband. Any kind, so long as its Hershey’s chocolate is his stand on the matter. But there were so many choices in size of bars, size of bags, etc., etc., etc.
Finally I settled on a VERY large bag of miniatures. Will I eat some? Surely I will. He’ll leave all the dark chocolate for me and concentrate on the milk chocolate; I’ll fix a bag filled with the Krackel and Mr. Goodbar for mother.

The dogs will beg when they hear the little bars being unwrapped, but no, they will not get any. Definitely not. I’ve heard, but don’t know if it’s true, that chocolate is poison to their systems.
A Spooky Halloween picture:
Ole' Doe-eyed Kris wishes you a happy Halloween. |
I love this pose of Valerie. She looks as if she's thinking, "how pretty I am!" |
Boo! |
Happy Halloween everyone.
Cute, cute treats for those children. Love the photo from last night of the kittens in the persimmon tree - it really looks like a Halloween picture. Kris and Val, as usual, are adorable but Soxie baby does look like a bad cat in the picture! But we know better.
ReplyDeleteI took the treats down to the children and they were getting ready to leave for their outing. They looked so cute in their costumes: the little boy as Dracula and the two little girls ballerinas. They wanted to go visit mother to show off their costumes. She loved seeing them!
DeleteSamps, enjoyed reading your blog about your Halloween day! I have to admit, I did not buy candy, cut a pumpkin, or turn on my front porch light tonight.. this is so unlike me, I normally give out candy til 8:00 at night.
ReplyDeleteAll the grandchildren are bigger, not trick or treating anymore, therefore I wasn't in the mood.
Loved the treats you bought for neighbor kids, I'm sure they were excited, also loved seeing the animals pictures.
Happy Halloween..
Darry
I'm sure it was sad seeing the grandchildren outgrowing the trick-or-treating phase. The kids loved the little treats. Tied them up with cellophane with an apple and some of the chocolate candy and finished it off with a gold ribbon. Happy Halloween to you as well!
DeleteHow sweet you are to deliver treats to the kiddos down the hill. The last picture of Sox made me laugh, perfect for the day.
ReplyDeleteDarla
That picture of Sox cracked me up too. She's such a sweet kitty, not at all mean as she looks in the "yawn" picture.
DeleteMama Sox looks terrifying! And those cats in the tree are perfect for Halloween. But those sweet dog faces are the best. Kris always looks like he adores you and Valerie just look very proud of herself.
ReplyDeleteOh, and what the heck are parched peanuts?
But Sox really is a sweetie. Could you find the two kitties in the tree? the white spots on feet and breast helps identify them. Kris does adore me; follows me every step I make. Claus is so jealous, as he was supposed to be "his" dog.
DeleteSorry! I allowed a "Southernism" to come through when I said "parched" peanuts; same as roasted peanuts. Where that term came from I'll never know, but old habits die hard sometimes. You know, I actually thought about that after I posted: that the term parched peanuts might be confusing to some.
What a fun Halloween post, Sanda. I enlarged the spooky photo and found the 2 cats in the tree. Weren't they obliging setting up a great Halloween shot for you. That was a sweet gesture to make up gifts for the neighbouring children - I love the pumpkins! And Valerie looks like a real honey, while Mommy Sox tries to look fierce. Good to see they are all involved in the action.
ReplyDeleteAs always super photos especially the eerie tree!
ReplyDeleteHave a November to remember.Ida
When I shot the picture I didn't have in mind it would become a Halloween one but somehow it seemed just right!
DeleteLoved your photos. I love animals and was not allowed to have any growing up. I could not wait to live on my own and have all the animals I wanted. I started with adopting a white samolian dog who I fell in love with but living in apartments in the city I soon realized was what I consider cruelty to animals so had to let a freind who lived rural take him. When marriwed I had various pets but when something happens to them I do not hanlde it well. I love others dogs and cats and get attached even from afar. They are each so precious in their own way with their own personalities.
ReplyDeleteI think you have found a great way to enjoy animals. I agree that confining large pets in apartments in the city is not the best way, but it's amazing how they adapt if that's what they become accustomed to.
DeleteHow very kind of you to remember the children in your neighborhood. And your husband!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of your furry family members are absolutely adorable.
The facial expressions show so well on a light colored dog/ cat compared to a black one, and your´s really show their emotions : )!
My pets make my day each and every day. A lot of work involved but well worth it. P.S. I haven't had any of the candy yet, but am sure I'll get around to doing so sooner or later!
DeleteGreat photos! We don't have trick or treaters. I took my children to those extra large neighborhoods that have to buy 100's of dollars of candy!
