Simple Christmas Decorations

I wanted a rustic, outdoorsy look  look for the sunroom tree so I used a skinny little artificial number mounted on a wood base. I placed it on the wicker coffee table.

The tree's only adornments are garlic chive seed pods cut from the garden.

Christmas decorations in the dining room are my favorites. On top of the buffet sideboard I placed white fairy lights around the Waterford Crystal decanter and sherry glasses. I added a bit of bling with a red and gold garland and finished with holly leaves and berries from the garden.

The front door wreath may (no, make that WILL) get reworked, as I'm not altogether pleased with the look. I may make a new bow, as I don't think the solid red works well here.

Still to come is the artificial prelighted Christmas tree, which will be placed in the living room, but this year without all the packed-away ornaments.

Have you started decorating your house and garden for Christmas? If so, what have you done? Thanks for sharing.

  1. I love them all - especially the one in sunroom - it fits in SO well with the outside. I would have never thought of garlic chives but it looks great - looks like dried hydrangea! Love the front door wreath - how do you think a lime green bow would look - I like the red but against the red door, some other color might be better.

    1. I don't know what made me think of garlic chives! You are right; red bow on red door is not good. I'll see what kind of ribbon I can find. Expert bow maker that you are, I may call on your services!

  2. I love them all too...I think the only thing your wreath needs is a bow with red and gold...the solid red does not photograph well but the wreath is quite beautiful...love the sunroom tree.Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday Sanda.

    1. Thanks! The bow is definitely going to GO. I may add more garlic chive seed heads to the sunroom tree.

  3. Hi Sanda. Thanks for sharing your decorations; always great ideas! I like the natural woodsy look. I miss my huge magnolia tree and holly berry trees from my old house, my favorite decorations. We put up our pre-lighted tree; still looks pretty covered with red, white & glittery ornaments. Our tree has always been topped with the white plastic star edged in red since my children were pre-teen and they're now 50 & 52 yrs. old. It just seems "right". In the living room is a small green tree with beautiful crystal angel-type ornaments which were found at an estate sale. At Christmas time, my mind is in a "decorate it and they will come..." mode never knowing who can be here for Christmas:-) I love sharing meals or just dessert time with family and friends during the holidays; so just come on over!! It's hardly worth the effort if it's not shared. Merry Christmas to all! May God richly bless you with peace and love.

    1. Your trees sound very beautiful and of course the star for the top is so sentimental that you MUST use it each year. Hoping that all turn up to spend a portion of Christmas with you. I agree with you that the food is to be shared! Hoping to see you sometime during the holidays. And the same good wishes to you as well.

  4. I love those lights with the crystal, making something everyday into holiday. I would probably put a plaid bow on your wreath. But it is very beautiful in it's simplicity, no matter what type of bow you use.
You got such lovely comments on this post! Love Areeda's "decorate it and they will come...".

    1. I liked Areeda's comment too! I do like just using what's already there and dressing it up a bit for the holidays.

  5. Oh I so love the rustic tree with the garlic chive ornaments - it fits the room so perfectly. The waterford crystal set looks beautiful, and how wonderful to have fresh holly leaves and berries! I have only seen them growing once in England, but the last couple of years fresh cut holly has appeared in the florist shops in Australia. I have been enjoying putting up a selection of Christmas ornaments, and today put a wreath on the door. I love to do something a little different each year, but keep the old traditions alive too. Enjoy the Season, Sanda.

    1. Glad you like the garlic chive ornaments, Patricia. I suppose we take hollies for granted. They are such a great plant all year long.

I look forward to seeing your Christmas decorations on your blog. It's great to keep the old traditions alive!

  6. The rustic tree is perfect. I really like the "log" part of of the way it is made. I agree that another bow would be better against the red door.

    1. Hi Darla
I bought ribbon today for a new bow and will place a picture of the reworked wreath on the blog soon. I have a set of five of those rustic trees in graduated sizes; this is the next to largest. In past years I have grouped them all in the foyer and placed white fairy lights on them. It looked very nice!

  7. I like all the three decorations in your house.
The sherry glass arrangement is super glamorous.
I would not have been worried about the ribbon, had you not mentioned it
